Job Opportunity: Part-Time Interim Pastor
Location: Portland Covenant Church, Northeast Portland, OR
Commitment: 20-25 hours/week (Flexible, including Sundays)
Compensation: $34,200/year + travel stipend (if applicable)

Portland Covenant Church is seeking an Interim Pastor to provide vital spiritual leadership as we search for our next permanent Lead Pastor. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a heart for preaching, pastoral care, and fostering unity in a multigenerational, multicultural congregation.

As our Interim Pastor, you will play a key role in this transitional season while we search for our permanent Lead Pastor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preaching & Teaching: Prepare and preach weekly sermons that are grounded in Scripture, inspiring our congregation to live out the gospel in their everyday lives.

    • Weekly sermon preparation (6 hrs)

    • Preaching at Sunday services (3 hrs)

  • Pastoral Care: Provide ongoing spiritual care and support to our congregation through hospital visits, home visits, and one-on-one meetings as needed.

    • Conduct visits and offer prayer support (1-5 hrs/week)

  • Leadership Collaboration: Work closely with church leaders, deacons, and administrative staff to ensure the smooth running of the church and its events.

    • Meet monthly with church leadership team (2 hrs)

    • Meet monthly with deacon team (2 hrs)

  • Administrative Support: Help coordinate volunteers, events, and church announcements, ensuring that our community remains informed and engaged.

    • Weekly coordination with church admin assistant (1 hr)

    • Plan upcoming events and sermon series with the leadership team (1 hr/month)

  • Ethical Standards: Credentialed clergy (or pastor in process of becoming credentialed) who are committed to upholding the ethical guidelines for Evangelical Covenant Church clergy.

Position Details:

  • Work Schedule: Minimum of 3 days per week in Portland, including Sundays. Flexibility for non-local applicants.

  • Term Length: This is an interim role with a limited term, renewable based on mutual agreement between the Interim Pastor and the Leadership Team.

Compensation:

  • The interim role will continue on a renewable term, depending on the timeline of the search for a permanent Lead Pastor.

  • The position offers a salary of $34,200, with a travel allowance if applicable.
